Australasian horses through the trot-up as Storm Benjamin delays the dressage at Pau

The 2025 Les Étoiles de Pau got off to a dramatic start on Thursday in France, with severe weather from Storm Benjamin forcing organisers to reschedule the trot-up and first day of dressage. Despite the disruption, all 53 CCI5*L horses were accepted during the evening horse inspection – including the Australian and New Zealand horses – clearing the way for the competition to get underway on Friday, 24 October.

Originally planned for Thursday morning, the first horse inspection was moved to 5pm after organisers closed the site for several hours as a safety precaution. Later, in consultation with local authorities, the event announced that the first half of the dressage – initially due to begin Thursday afternoon – would now be held entirely on Friday, October 24 from 9am local time to ensure equal footing for all competitors.

In an official statement, the organisers said:

“Due to the weather conditions announced for October 23 and in accordance with the recommendations of the local authorities, we have taken preventive measures to ensure the safety of participants, horses, and the public. The safety of everyone remains our top priority.”
