Twenty-one-year-old Hannah Rockwell has ridden her mare Baumann’s Diorella to victory at Boneo Park today, claiming the Leader Equine CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle on a super score of 72.390%.
Hannah and her 13-year-old German-bred mare (Dankeschoen x Davignon I) are contesting their first ever CDI3* here at the Carlton Performance Horses (CPH) Dressage Extravaganza, after stepping up from the CDI Under 25 ranks.
The duo edged out Olympians Jayden Brown and Quincy B by the narrowest of margins, with the runners-up scoring a strong 72.260%.
Speaking to Equestrian Life earlier this year, Hannah detailed her first U25 Grand Prix that she rode (and won) at Willinga Park in February.
“My first U25 Grand Prix was at the 2025 Willinga Park CDI,” she explained. “Prior to that, I had only done a few Medium Tour starts and one Inter II. I was pleasantly surprised by how my mare stepped up to the challenge. Of course, there were some green mistakes, but to come away with a CDI win in our first Grand Prix was truly a dream come true.”
Baumann’s Diorella, affectionately known as ‘D’, means everything to Hannah.
“I know it’s a bit cliché, but I can best describe D as my best friend. We’ve had her for five years now, and it’s been quite the journey! When we bought her, she was a very green Medium horse who wouldn’t enter an arena without a few acrobatics. So, for her to now be a Grand Prix horse and genuinely happy in her work feels like a major accomplishment.”
Remarkably, Hannah is also a talented eventer and won the CCI2*S at Scone earlier this month riding Hermes des Brandieres.
In yesterday’s Grand Prix test – won by Jayden Brown and Quincy B – Hannah and D were third on 66.870%.
In third place in today’s Freestyle was Caroline Wagner and Ibicus on a score of 70.935%, just ahead of Jodie Dunstan and Hollands Bend Highlander – who completed a top four all above 70% with their mark of 70.810%.
