Australian Hilary Scott has placed third in the $116,050 (USD) Grand Prix 1.55m with the evergreen mare Oaks Milky Way (Clearway x Jalisco B) at the Canadian Premier show, held at Thunderbird Show Park in Canada (21-25 May).
The pair jumped clear out on the Fort Grand Prix Arena in Round 1, joining five other combinations in the jump-off where they again jumped clear. Stopping the clock in 39.24 seconds, Hilary and Milky Way finished only a fraction behind the second-placed Irish combination of Conor Swail and Theo 160 (38.95). Great Britain’s Charlie Jones and Capitale 6 won the class in a blistering time of 36.57 seconds.
Fellow Aussie Zoe Brown also finished in the top ten, placing eighth with 11-year-old Chino 29 (Cellestial x Leo Von Faelz, owned by EV Equestrian LLC) as the second quickest with four faults. New Zealand’s Katie Laurie, who in the past has represented Australia at the elite level, also qualified for the Grand Prix and placed 15th with Django II.
Hilary Scott and 17-year-old Oaks Milky Way – bred here in Australia by Hilary’s mother Alice Cameron at Oaks Sport Horses – are no stranger to success at the top level and have represented Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 2022 FEI World Championships, and countless Nations Cup and World Cup events.
