French equine transport leader THEAULT introduces its next-generation AERO Switch to Australia, combining innovative design, safety technology and the ever-popular patented SWITCH system to deliver exceptional comfort, performance and confidence for horses and humans alike.
Equine transport manufacturer THEAULT is one of France’s most revered brands. Renowned worldwide for its innovative horse transport solutions, THEAULT is backed by more than 100 years of expertise, craftsmanship and tradition.
Here in Australia, riders have enjoyed access to THEAULT’s pioneering vehicles since 2009. In 2019, the company relaunched its Australian operations and has continued to grow steadily, with the PROTEO Switch — THEAULT’s versatile flagship model — proving particularly popular.
Never one to rest on its laurels, THEAULT’s commitment to innovation means its latest-generation model is set to arrive on Australian shores.

The AERO Switch is THEAULT’s latest-generation horsebox, redefining the standards of equine transport.

THEAULT’s patented SWITCH modular system is complemented by rear-facing horse positioning, which promotes improved balance and comfort during travel.
INTRODUCING THE AERO SWITCH
The AERO Switch is THEAULT’s latest-generation horsebox, redefining the standards of equine transport and delivering an unrivalled experience for both horse and human passengers.
Drawing on the expertise of a century-old brand, the AERO Switch represents a seamless fusion of avant-garde design and cutting-edge technology. Built on the new Renault Master van chassis, the AERO has been engineered for top-level performance. In fact, the Renault Master was voted 2025 International Van of the Year.
The AERO’s sloping windscreen, redesigned mirrors and optimised structure contribute to a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, while advanced driver-assistance systems and an upgraded level of comfort further distinguish this model from its predecessor, the PROTEO Switch.
The AERO Switch is designed to carry up to two horses and retains THEAULT’s patented SWITCH modular system as standard — which your horses are sure to be happy about!
SWITCH TO EQUINE COMFORT
THEAULT is the only manufacturer to offer the world-patented SWITCH system, allowing up to eight different travel configurations. This unique modular design enables owners to adapt the layout of their vehicle to suit each horse’s size, morphology and temperament, ensuring comfort and suitability across all breeds.
This is complemented by THEAULT’s signature rear-facing horse positioning, which promotes improved balance and comfort during travel. The horse compartment is fully insulated using sandwiched aluminium panels, helping regulate temperature, reduce noise and enhance overall travel comfort.
Given the long distances often travelled in Australia, it ensures optimal comfort for horses is a vital part of equine management.
HUMAN COMFORT
Comfort hasn’t been reserved solely for equine passengers. The AERO’s cabin offers a spacious, fully modular environment, with both three-seat and five-seat configurations available.
Designed with human comfort in mind, the five-seater is particularly suited to longer trips and features options including a rear bench seat that converts into two bunks, integrated storage lockers, a removable table compatible with the swivel seating, blackout curtains for overnight stays, and optional leather interior finishes.

SAFETY AT THE FOREFRONT
Safety has always been central to THEAULT’s design philosophy. The AERO Switch features a low centre of gravity, with weight distributed between the wheels for superior stability, manoeuvrability and control — particularly in sudden braking or evasive situations.
For added peace of mind, a dedicated horse-compartment camera allows real-time monitoring of horses during transit.
The AERO Switch also features the latest driver-assist technologies for added reassurance on the road, such as active emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and a speed limiter.

WHAT ABOUT HORSEPOWER?
Most of us are more interested in the horsepower we’re loading in the back, however there is also plenty of horsepower under the hood.
The AERO is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox, delivering 150hp in the three-seat model and 170hp in the five-seat version.
Requiring only a standard car licence, the AERO Switch drives much like a passenger vehicle, with everything contained in a single unit. There’s no need for hitching or unhitching as with a float, and a reversing camera makes parking at events as straightforward as a van or 4WD.

Clever design and uncompromising quality have established THEAULT as a global leader.
A RICH HISTORY
Founded in 1924 by Émile Theault, THEAULT began as a manufacturer of horse-drawn carriages before pioneering motorised horse transport. From a small workshop in the cellar of the family farm, the company produced its first bodied vehicle and, by the 1950s, launched the world’s first rear-facing horsebox with a side ramp.
Clever design and uncompromising quality have since established THEAULT as a global leader. In 2019, THEAULT’s commitment to excellence was recognised by the French Government with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label. This prestigious distinction celebrates outstanding industrial and artisanal expertise, enabling THEAULT to proudly represent French craftsmanship worldwide.
Today, from its ultra-modern 30,000m² facility in Normandy, a team of 200 skilled employees — including designers, engineers and assemblers — produce nearly three vehicles per day through a meticulous five-week manufacturing and inspection process.
THEAULT is an exclusive Renault Approved Converter for horse transport and maintains a strong relationship with the Australian Renault dealership network. Vehicles are delivered fully certified for Australia, registered and ready to drive, and are backed by a three-year Renault manufacturer’s warranty and a three-year THEAULT bodywork warranty.
The AERO Switch three-seater will be available in Australia from March 2026, with the five-seater model to follow in June.
