The final day of the Carlton Performance Horses (CPH) Dressage Extravaganza took place at Boneo Park today, with four combinations taking to Arena A this morning for the CDI3* Grand Prix Special.

On Friday, Jayden Brown and Quincy B claimed the CDI3* Grand Prix, and yesterday young Hannah Rockwell and Baumann’s Diorella stepped up to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle.

Today, it was six-time Olympian Mary Hanna’s turn to finish atop the podium, partnering the impressive Ivanhoe (Desperado x Jazz) to a winning score of 71.362% in the CDI3* Grand Prix Special. The duo was placed first by four of the five judges. Jayden Brown and Quincy B finished a close second on 71.000%.

Caroline Wagner and Ibicus were third on 67.149%, while Jodie Dunstan and Holland’s Bend Highlander scored 66.447% to round out the field for the challenging test.

Mary found Ivanhoe through Patrik Kittel in Germany in 2022. Since then, she has brought the gelding up from Small Tour to Grand Prix, with the pair being named the travelling reserves for the Australian team at the Paris Olympic Games (almost a seventh Olympic appearance for Mary!) and also representing Australia at the FEI World Cup Final in Basel, Switzerland earlier this year. This latest victory at Boneo marks another feather in the cap of this very successful partnership.

Aiming for Aachen

Equestrian Australia released its selection policy earlier this year for the 2026 FEI World Championships, which states that combinations must demonstrate experience in a minimum of two Grand Prix Special tests at CDI3* or higher. Today’s competition will no doubt have been closely watched by selectors as we begin to look ahead to Aachen next year.
