Andrew Hoy and Vassily de Lassos claim individual bronze in Tokyo

By Equestrian Life

Australians Andrew Hoy and Vassily de Lassos have claimed individual bronze in Tokyo after another faultless showjumping round in the individual final, adding to their team silver medal!

The pair were foot perfect, and the only combination in the eventing competition to finish on their dressage score of 29.6. Vassily de Lasso, a 12 year old Selle Francais Anglo Arab, is owned by David and Paula Evans, and groomed by Clémentine Girardeau.

Germany’s Julia Krajewski held her nerve to become the first woman in history to claim individual eventing gold. Riding Amande de B’Neville, she clocked just 0.40 of a time penalty to maintain the lead they achieved following the team jumping round earlier tonight. They finished on 26.

Great Britain’s Tom McEwen and Toledo de Kerser took home the silver, also jumping clear and incurring 0.4 time penalties to finish on 29.3, just 0.3 penalties ahead of Andrew and Vassily.

Australians Shane Rose and Virgil managed another great jumping round, again just having the one rail down when they lightly tapped the first obstacle in the treble. Shane and Virgil - a 16 year old gelding who is owned by Shane, wife Niki, and Michelle Hasibar, and groomed by Rachel Watts - finished their Olympic campaign on 39.7 in 10th place.

Kevin McNab and Scuderia 1918 Don Quidam had three rails down, two of which were in the treble. They pair finished on 46.9 in 14th place. It was a fantastic effort for Kevin and the 13 year old KWPN gelding, who is owned by Scuderia 1918 and groomed by Lucy Hartley; the combination started out as the second in line reserve combination before ultimately finding themselves in the team on the eve of the dressage phase.

What a great night of eventing action, bring on Paris!
