The FEI goes behind the scenes at this pionerring project...

The Windrush Equestrian Foundation for young riders was created by the late Christina Knudsen as a programme to promote education, training and welfare among participants.

Christina, who sadly passed away from a rare form of cancer in 2016, had a dream of building up a training center in the UK where young riders learn what they need to compete at a top-level in sports. The passionate eventer put her plans in place before she passed away, and her work is being brought to fruition by a team led by co-founder Maria Chiara Apruzzese.

Maria Chiara tells us [the FEI] about the development of the Windrush Foundation and we also hear from Olympic medallist Pippa Funnell, one of the programme mentors, and some of the young riders who have benefitted from the scheme.

"It's the whole package not just riding, which is obviously a huge part of what we do. We've also got to run a business," Alicia Hawker says.

"I think all of us have the goal of making it, in terms of having Eventing as our career in the future and hopefully being as successful as we possibly can be. I think what the foundation is so good at is that it covers the finer details that are so vital."
