Dementia patients are receiving therapy with the help of a horse named Bushman

Former aged-care nurse Christie Hall owns and looks after the 16-hand snowflake Appaloosa cross-quarter horse, who is a therapy horse.

Bushman has been in Ms Hall’s life for the past 16 years, but it is only the past 18 months that Bushman has worked as the ‘Therapist with Hooves’, visiting aged care homes around Sydney and the south coast of New South Wales.

Ms Hall said that Bushman has a gift for putting residents at ease — particularly those with dementia.

“Residents that never talked started talking, residents that didn’t want to leave their rooms, actually came out of their rooms,” Ms Hall said…
