Olympic showjumper Kent Farrington has been named as the US Equestrian Federation’s international equestrian of the year for 2020.

Kent’s list of accolades is wide and varied; he was part of his country’s silver medal winning team at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and was also part of the  bronze medal winning team at WEG in 2014. In 2019, he won the CSI5* Rolex Grand Prix at CHIO Aachen with top mare Gazelle (Equestrian Life’s tour group watched on from the stands!) and in the same year the pair also won the Rolex Grand Prix at CHI Geneva. They became the first US combination to achieve this double.

Despite a limited season last year with Covid restrictions, Kent and Gazelle enjoyed success. The pair won the $213,000 American Gold Cup Grand Prix CSI4* in Michigan and were second in the $401,000 CSI5* Grand Prix in Florida.

Gazelle, a 15 year old mare co-owned by Kent himself and Robin Parsky, took out the international horse honours.

Both awards, voted on by USEF members, formed part of the virtual USEF Pegasus and Horses of the Year Awards – which took place on 16 January.
