One of Australia’s most-loved horses, Apache Cat, is in the clear following a cancer scare.
The 18-year-old underwent eye cancer treatment earlier this year, with a subsequent check-up last month confirming the procedure was a success.
Living Legends CEO Dr Andrew Clarke said he was thrilled with the result but would continue to closely monitor the eight-time Group 1 winner just in case.
Apache Cat will be on course at Flemington on Saturday as part of the Victoria Racing Club’s National Jockeys’ Trust race day.
“It’s really good, really, really good. I’m very happy,” he said.
“Basically, he’s all clear at this stage. The eye looks great and (specialist) Andrew Turner had a really good look at it and couldn’t be happier.
“Our plan is to keep a really careful eye on things at the farm. He will go back for a follow up visit in four months.
“We are really excited to have him back out at public events and those things.”
