Kristy Oatley and Du Soleil withdraw from Tokyo selection contention

Kristy Oatley has withdrawn from contention for Australian Olympic dressage team selection, citing the challenges associated with the ongoing Covid-19 situation, as well as her desire to support daughter Rose in her bid to be selected for the European Championships in August.

“Following careful consideration I have decided to withdraw myself and Du Soleil from Tokyo 2020 team nomination,” said Kristy.

“The ongoing Covid-19 situation has provided significant challenges throughout our Tokyo 2020 preparations, and while Du Soleil and I have achieved our qualifications and have worked hard to ensure we are in peak form, I do not feel it is the right time for us to travel to the Games.

“As a mother my priority is always my children, and my daughter Rose is currently pursing her goal of being selected for the European Championships in August. I am committed to supporting Rose in achieving her dreams in the dressage arena and I am taking his time to enjoy the journey with her, and my family.

“I would like to thank my family, EA High Performance and everyone who has supported DuSoleil and I throughout our Olympic campaign. A special thank you must also go to my wonderful partner ‘Düse’ without whom this adventure could not have been possible.

“I wish all those representing Australia in Tokyo the very best of luck, and a safe and successful Olympic Games.”
