Laura Collett retires Mr Bass
By Equestrian Life
British eventer Laura Collett has called time on the career of popular five-star horse, Mr Bass, after he re-injured an injury sustained at Badminton in 2019.
Laura made the announcement via social media, saying it’s “the hardest thing [she’s] ever had to write”.
The 13 year old gelding had his last start in the CCIO4* at Aachen this year, finishing fourth. He was a successful young horse and continued to win and place at events as he moved up the grades with Laura. His best placing at the top level was a second at Luhmühlen in 2018.
“‘Chuck’ means the absolute world to me and owes me nothing, he’s my best friend and I owe it to him to do the right thing, therefore we have made the very difficult decision to retire him from top level eventing… I can’t actually explain how hard it is to comprehend that I will never get to enjoy flying round the toughest XC tracks with him again .
“‘Chuck’ will continue to make me smile every day, as he has done since the day I saw him as a feral 4yo and whatever the future holds, we will have fun together!
“I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Keith Scott and Nick How for all their support over the years … we have been so lucky to enjoy some very special days together. It’s safe to say – ‘Chuck’ truly is one in a million.”
