Canadian showjumper Eric Lamaze to take a break from the sport

By Equestrian Life

Champion Canadian showjumper Eric Lamaze is taking a break from the sport due to his health, with Beth Underhill to take over the reins of his team.

The 2008 Olympic gold medallist has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumour for three years, and last competed in September at Spruce Meadows when he was on the winning Nations Cup team with Fine Lady 5.

Eric’s horses are moving from his base in Belgium to his yard in Wellington, Florida, where Beth – also a Canadian – will begin riding them. Eric will oversee training from the ground.

Eric is Canada’s most successful showjumper, with accolades including individual gold and team silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, individual bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, individual bronze at the 2010 WEG in Kentucky, and numerous Pan American Games medals.

Equestrian Life wishes Eric all the best and we hope to see him back in the saddle in the near future.
