Sam Griffiths named new head coach of NZ eventing team
By Equestrian Life
Equestrian Sports New Zealand (ESNZ) has announced that Australian Olympian Sam Griffiths will be the new head coach of its eventing team.
Sam, who has competed at two Olympic Games and was part of Australia’s bronze medal winning team in 2016 with Paulank Brockagh, told ESNZ that despite being based in the UK for the past two decades, his roots are firmly Down Under.
“Being an Antipodean, I have always had an affinity with Southern Hemisphere riders,” he says. “New Zealand has a lot of very talented riders and I know quite a few of them so feel I have a good rapport with them.”
While Sam still competes, he’s stepping back from elite-level international competition with a much smaller team of horses than he once had and is more focused on coaching.
Sam will no doubt be a huge asset to the ESNZ Eventing High Performance Programme, bringing a wealth of knowledge when it comes to preparing combinations for major championships.
