Aussies in action at Bromont
By Equestrian Life
Australian eventers have been in action at a very wet Bromont CCI in southern Quebec, Canada.
The event had four days of rain soaking the ground before cross country day, making the job a little harder on already quite big and challenging tracks — however Aussies Ryan Wood and Ema Klugman competed in multiple classes, going clear of jump penalties on the cross country on each occasion.
Ryan finished second in the CCI4*S with Cooley Flight, adding just cross country time penalties and a showjumping rail to their dressage score to finish on 58.1. Ryan was also 9th in the CCI2*L with Check Point, again just adding just time penalties to their dressage score to finish on 37.1.
“Thank you Bromont CCI for putting on an awesome event. Both horses (are) feeling ready to move into the next level, gaining so much confidence from the incredible cross country track Bromont offers,” said Ryan via social media.

Ema Klugman was 12th in the CCI4*L with Bronte Beach, jumping clear in both phases and adding just time penalties to their dressage score to finish on 72.6. Ema also contested the CCI3*L with RF Redfern, finishing 6th and also adding only time penalties to their dressage score to finish on 38.3.
Ema was pleased with both horses, who are young and new to their respective levels. For her, Bromont was about planning for the future:
“Going slowly on Bronte was putting money in the bank for her future. Likewise, it was a big ask for Fern to do her first 3L at Bromont, in the mud, only two years after her very first event. She’s a careful horse, but she trusts me, and I have promised myself to ride her everyday with her bright future in mind.
“Partnerships take two, and starting them early is really valuable. I took both of these mares to their very first horse shows. I did their first cross country schools, their first dressage tests, and their first FEI events. We know each other well and we learn more about each other everyday.”
Congratulations Ryan and Ema!
