Swedes scoop World Championship gold in Team Final thriller
By Louise Parkes
The Olympic champions from Sweden lived up to expectations when sweeping to Team gold at the ECCO FEI World Championships 2022 in Herning, Denmark Friday night, where The Netherlands took silver and Great Britain rocketed up the leaderboard to claim bronze.
Henrik von Eckermann (King Edward), Malin Baryard-Johnsson (H&M Indiana) and Peder Fredricson (H&M All In) were in that three-member Tokyo winning side, but it was the superb clear produced by Peder’s older brother, Jens Fredricson (Markan Cosmopolit) that sealed it for the new champions.

Peder Fredricson was lying third in the Individual rankings going into Friday’s competition, but with three fences down has dropped out of the top-25 who have made the cut into Sunday’s Individual medal-decider. But his brother Jens has moved up to second behind team-mate Henrik von Eckermann in pole position, so there may be more Swedish glory ahead.
In an evening of great sport and huge tension there were also five Olympic qualifying spots also up for grabs, and the three medal-winning sides will be joined at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by the fourth-placed Irish team and Germany who slotted into fifth.
