Stars of the future on offer at Chedington Equestrian Sovereign Auction

Two embryos from the CCI5* eventing mare Quality Purdey (pictured), who was selected to represent Australia at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, are bound to be among the most popular lots in the Chedington Equestrian Sovereign Auction on 11 September.

Quality Purdey, who was ridden by Christopher Burton to finish second at Pau CCI5* in 2019, is by Quality 9 out of a Leonid mare. Her two embryos are by Diamant De Semilly and Contendro 1.

Other embryos available at this British-based online auction of foals and embryos – thought to be the first of its kind – include one by the world’s leading showjumping sire, Chacco Blue, out of an outstanding international showjumping mare, and one by CCI5* eventing sire Le Prince Du Bois out of an eight-year-old CCI4* eventing mare.

Foals on offer on 11 September include an entire yearling colt and exceptional stallion prospect out of a beautifully bred mare by OBOS Quality, the sire of 2019 Burghley winner MGH Grafton Street and Brookfield Quality, a CCI4* winner with Piggy March.

Those looking for “blood” in their eventing prospects will be keen to acquire a 100% thoroughbred daughter of Miners Lamp – sire of European individual eventing champion and Olympic medallist Miners Frolic – with Hand In Glove and Primitive Rising lines.

Others include a daughter of Je T’Aime Flamenco out of a full-sister to an advanced eventer; a colt foal by Future Gravitas out of a full-sister to CCI5* and team horse Ballylynch Skyport, and foals by Churchill III – ridden by leading showjumper Holly Smith; the advanced eventing sire Party Trick, and Classic Opera, who has progeny with two current Team GBR eventing gold medallists.

Auction director Georgie Belton said: “The Chedington Sovereign Auction gives a global audience of the buyers of international showjumpers and international eventers access to some of the world’s most exceptional embryos and foals right here in the UK. I am delighted that Chedington have come on board as our title sponsor, given their long-term involvement in both top-level showjumping and eventing.”

Dr Geoffrey Guy, owner of Chedington Equestrian, said: “Chedington is delighted to partner with The Sovereign Auction. Chedington is involved in the breeding of quality sports horses for the British and international elite market and are also the proud breeders of Champion Hurdle winner Honeysuckle.

“Additionally, the estate boasts a world-class equestrian facility that provides a base for elite riders including showjumper and eventer Christopher Burton and dressage rider Jayden Brown. As a brand, Chedington is focused on supporting British business and enterprise, making this a very fitting partnership.”
