Australian vaulting star Jamie Hocking retires
By Equestrian Life
Australian Jamie Hocking has announced his retirement from vaulting after more than a decade of representing Australia on the international stage.
Jamie grew up on a sheep farm in South Australia and began riding at age six. By 14 he was on the Australian team for the 2010 World Equestrians Games in Kentucky as a ‘flyer’, and then by 2012 was competing for Australia as an individual vaulter. He continued on to contest numerous World Cup qualifiers and international championships, including the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon with his mare French Kiss and most recently the 2021 FEI World Vaulting Championships in Budapest.
Last year, Jamie was unfortunately forced to withdraw from the FEI World Vaulting Championships due to a shoulder injury.
Although he has travelled extensively since 2012 to train, in more recent years Jamie has been based virtually full-time in Denmark.
“Vaulting has given me the most amazing chance to meet so many fantastic people and learn so many skills that I will take forward in my life from here,” said Jamie via social media. “I want above all, to say a big thanks to all of you who have followed me and been with me on the journey until now. I’m honoured to have worked alongside you all and glad I could share the moments of my vaulting career with you. Professionally, thanks to Equestrian Australia for allowing me to represent our country.”
Equestrian Life wishes Jamie all the best in his retirement!
