Australia wins three individual medals at the Virtus Global Games
Friday saw the individual medal competition take place at the Virtus Global Games for dressage competitors, and all three Australian riders were on the podium!
Sui Watts on the borrowed mare, Bonni won an individual gold medal in the Grade IV Novice A – II2 division. In the Grade IV Novice A – II1 division, Sarah Sherwood – who shared Bonni with Sui – won an individual silver medal.
As Heath Ryan says, the French owners who lent Bonni to the Australian team should be given automatic Australian citizenship! A truly beautiful little horse.

The final competitor for Australia on Friday in the Grade IV Novice A – II1 division was Andrew Driffield and he won an individual gold medal. Andrew was also lent a horse, 18hh Volpino, by very generous French owners.
The individual medals follow on from the team’s gold medal on Thursday, at what has been a very successful Global Games for our equestrian team. An amazing effort, especially considering the other riders were on their own horses!

“The whole Virtus Global Games Equestrian adventure will be recorded as one of Australia’s most successful team ventures into the northern hemisphere,” says Heath Ryan, who spearheaded a fundraising effort alongside Mary Nitschke to get the team to France. “To Sui, to Sarah and to Andrew, you are all Australian legends, and we are all very, very proud of you. Congratulations.”
