Fernando, ridden by Australian Kelly Layne, has been named the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Grand Prix Horse of the Year at the USDF Salute Gala & Annual Awards Banquet, held on 2 December in Omaha, Nebraska.

By Foundation 2 out of Sandrice (Sandro Hit), Fernando is an 11-year-old Hanoverian owned by Ellen and Andy Trouille.

“In 2023 he won every Grand Prix test entered with a median of 75.707%,” said Kelly via social media. “A huge thank you to Ellen and Andy Trouille for choosing me to be Fernando’s trainer for the last five years from First Level to Grand Prix. I went to my first USDF convention in 2008 and I could never have imagined I would be standing here and receiving this award!”

Congratulations Kelly on an amazing achievement!
