Alicia Ryan & Merricks Sonique achieve Young Horse World Championship qualifying score in Sopot

By Equestrian Life

Alicia Ryan and Merricks Sonique have achieved a qualifying score for the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses (3-6 August, Ermelo) in Sopot, Poland.

The pair scored 69.507% in the CDI-YH FEI 7YO Preliminary Test on Thursday, before scoring 70.257% on Friday in the FEI 7YO Final Test – the latter being a qualifying score for the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses.

Merricks Sonique is a Hanoverian mare by Stedinger (imp) out of Waldfee (imp) (by Donnerschwee) and owned by Susan Ryan. She was bred in Victoria by Merricks Warmbloods.

Full results from the event can be found here.

World Championship selection

To be considered for selection for the World Championships, seven-year-old overseas based horses must have a minimum of one performance (MER) of at least 70% at a CDI-YH. As was the case last year, FEI rules stipulate that Australia is only able to send one combination in each age category, with preference given to homebred (Australian-bred) horses – however, overseas-bred horses with Australian riders may compete if no qualified homebred horses enter.

The FEI’s Nominated Entry deadline is 5 July 2023, with Definite Entries due by 19 July.
