The successful German event rider Bettina Hoy declared today:

“It was always clear to me that I would go while I am still at the top of my game! Having competed at three Olympic Games, five World and ten European Championships I feel it is the right moment to declare my resignation from the German Olympic squad.

“2017 was a great year for my horses and myself which was definitely crowned by winning my 4th German championship title in Luhmühlen and a top 10 ranking in the world rider ranking list at the end of the summer. Last year was also the beginning of my second career as a national coach of the Dutch eventing team. The work for this fantastic federation is a great honor and very rewarding. Both the Dutch federation and their riders deserve my full attention now.

“At the same time I would like to emphasize that I will certainly not stop riding and it will be a great pleasure for me to compete in selected three- and four-star competitions with Designer and other new horses!

“From a sporting point of view I also still have the dream to ride a Grand Prix dressage and because that part of our sport has always been my special strength I will now intensify my training in pure dressage.

“And of course I will keep producing young horses for both dressage and eventing and also train selected riders.”
