It has been reported that champion eventer Chilli Morning has passed away, age 20. Considered to be the most successful eventing stallion of all time, the stunning chestnut had a big impact on the sport.

He is best remembered for his formidable partnership with UK rider William Fox-Pitt. The pair achieved outstanding results at many major events, including individual bronze at the 2013 European Championships, individual bronze and team silver at the 2014 World Equestrian Games, first place at Badminton in 2015, and an unlucky 12th at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Chilli was retired from competition following Rio.

His final years were spent with owners Chris and Lisa Stone in Sussex, where Gemma Tattersall is based and the Stones breed eventers with Chilli as their main stallion.

Chris Stone made the following statement via Gemma Tattersall Eventing’s Facebook page:

“Lisa and I are very sad to say that Chilli Morning has passed away this morning. He had been hacking over the weekend and yesterday as normal, and was in his own turnout paddock this morning when he suddenly collapsed. He died instantly.

“Chilli was known and loved around the world as the most successful stallion the sport of eventing has ever seen. His competition record was outstanding and he was also very successful as a sire. However, his biggest impact for Lisa and me has been the most amazing memories he has given us.

“Thanks to all those who cared for him over the years, especially to the team at Fox-Pitt Eventing and more latterly to Gemma, Charlotte and the team here at Tattleton.”

Our thoughts are with Chris and Lisa Stone, and all those who were close to this wonderful horse.
