What have you fixed with baling twine?
By Equestrian Life
Forget electricity, the telephone and the internet – as many horse people know, baling twine is humankind’s most useful invention.
When future civilisations are digging up remnants of our existence, they will find plastic shopping bags, disposable coffee cup lids and archaic technological devices.
And they’ll find baling twine. Tightly-wound plastic fibres will be discovered on equestrian properties the world over – and although the infrastructure held together by its existence will be long gone, the blue, pink and yellow string will leave future civilisations in awe of its versatility and longevity. After all, the only thing that breaks baling twine (other than a razor sharp knife or pair of scissors) is itself.
Here, we take a look at some instances where baling twine has saved the day (disclaimer – we advocate safe fences for horses and don’t endorse all of the below handiwork!).
Gate hinges break, but baling twine lasts year in, year out.
Gate latches break or lose their alignment. Baling twine can tie any gate shut. Or create a fence for that matter.
Sagging showerheads are frustrating. Especially when you live in a share house and can’t identify the criminal who keeps forcibly adjusting the height without first loosening the knob. The good news? Baling twine can fix it.
Broken shelves in the feed shed are a real pain. And who had time to pull out the hammer and nails? Baling twine is a quicker, stronger fix – every time.

Has the bottom of your car fallen off? Forget paying hundreds of dollars to have it replaced or professionally reattached – baling twine is the sensible fix.

There is no better way to hold up those tomatoes you just planted…
And of course, part of being a horse owner means you unwittingly enter the competition for having the world’s largest ball of baling twine in your stable.
We know that every horse owner’s life is held together with these colourful plastic fibres – and we’d love to see your baling twine handy work! Snap a photo and send it to info@eqlife.com.au so we can share the true versatility of humankind’s greatest creation.
