Jessica Dertell made her competition debut with six-year-old KWPN licensed stallion Osaka in the 6YO Young Horse class on Sunday at Boneo Park, scoring 84.6%.
The stallion was imported into Australia and arrived at Future Farms late last month, after being purchased by Jess’ parents Kate and Doyle Dertell in partnership with Luke and Sarah Wells Smith of Motion Equine Centre.
The Dutch warmblood is by Escolar out of elite preference mare Capri P (by Florencio x Jazz x Ulft) and was bred by Pegasus Stales in Bentelo, The Netherlands. The Dertells and Luke and Sarah Wells Smith purchased him from Joop Van Uytert.
It’s certainly going to be an exciting partnership to watch develop!
Osaka’s part owner, Sarah, had a great weekend, enjoying some success of her own with the lovely chestnut Regal Floris Dance – winning both Novice tests on Sunday with scores of 71.172% and 70.858%.
Jess Dertell also enjoyed success in the Prix St Georges on Sunday with Daminia LP, winning on a score of 68.971%. The remaining Small Tour tests across the weekend were all won by Dallas Mills and Redwood Desire, with three very consistent scores all over 67%.
Saturday’s Grand Prix was won by Janet Seccull and Bloomfield Vegas on 67.337%, while the Grand Prix on Sunday was won by Caroline Wagner and Ibicus on 64.62%.
There were also some exciting results in the para dressage classes, in particular Mietta Innes-Irons and Sir Helmut winning both the Grade V Grand Prix A and B tests with impressive scores of 70.962% and 70.263%.
2025 Off The Track Dressage Series wraps up
The Autumn Dressage Championships also hosted the final leg of the 2025 Off The Track Dressage Series, following the initial leg at Boneo Park in January.
The Racing Victoria-sponsored series, which includes classes for Preliminary, Novice and Elementary off the track (OTT) horses, is now in its fifth year and features a prize pool of over $7,500. Once again, it was apparent that Thoroughbreds can more than hold their own in the dressage arena, and there were plenty of exciting performances across the levels.
