Twenty-year-old dressage rider Kate Kyros is set to become the first Australian rider to contest the invitational Young Rider classes at prestigious CHIO Aachen in Germany.
Kate received the exciting news on Tuesday night that she and stallion Intro K had been accepted and will now join an elite field of twelve combinations in the famed Deutsche Bank Stadium when CHIO Aachen gets underway from 28 June – 7 July 2024.
“It is unbelievable to have the opportunity to represent Australia on the world stage. I am so grateful to my team that supports me, including my mum, groom Nicola and of course my best friend Intro K,” said Kate after learning the exciting news.
Each year, CHIO Aachen invites twelve of the best young riders in the world to contest the event, with six spots reserved for German riders and six spots for the rest of the world. No Australian young rider has been invited to compete in this particular class at CHIO Aachen previously.
The Young Rider competition at CHIO Aachen includes two tests, the Young Riders Individual Test (Prize of Liselott and Klaus Rheinberger Foundation, 5 July) and the Young Riders Prix St. Georges Freestyle (Prize of Liselott and Klaus Rheinberger Foundation, 6 July).
Kate recently enjoyed a successful few months competing in Wellington, Florida with Intro K and her CDI-U25 horse, Chemistry. Now in Europe, Kate is based in Aachen and has the two stallions stabled a short drive over the border in Belgium at Gestüt Moosbend where she is training with Ton de Ridder. Kate has just completed her first CDI on European soil at CDI Olomouc in the Czech Republic with strong results on both horses, and we look forward to following the next step in her journey!
