Top ten for Australian jumping team in Kronenberg Nations Cup

The Australian jumping team has finished in ninth place at the CSIO3* Nations Cup competition at Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in Kronenberg, the Netherlands, finishing less than a rail behind Great Britain and one penalty ahead of Sweden.

The team, consisting of Tom McDermott and Cooley Gangster, Amelia Douglass and Quel Filou 16, Gabi Chugg and PSS Levilensky, and Thaisa Erwin and High Star Hero, put in an excellent performance, especially considering two riders were taking part in their first Nations Cup. 

Stephen Lamb was the Australian jumping Chef d’Equipe.

The class was won by the home side – the only team to complete the competition on a team total of 0 penalties – with Canada claiming second on 4 penalties and Ireland in third on 8.

Over two rounds of competition, the Australian team finished on a total of 15 penalties (where the best three scores from each round contributed to the team total). The individual scores were:

Cooley Gangster & Thomas McDermott:  

Round one: (12), 78.82 sec.

Round two: 0, 79.82 sec           

Quel Filou & Amelia Douglass

Round one: 6, 83.68 sec

Round two: 1, 82.67 sec           

PSS Levilensky & Gabrielle Chugg

Round one: 0, 79.85 sec           

Round two: (12), 80.50 sec      

High Star Hero & Thaisa Erwin

Round one: 4, 81.28 sec           

Round two: 4, 80.66 sec           

Team total:

Round one: 10.00 / 244.81       

Round two: 5.00 / 243.15         

= 15.00

Tom McDermott and Amelia Douglass also qualified for the CSIO3* 1.55m Grand Prix on the final day. Riding Cooley Gangster, Tom finished 15th of 46 combinations, having just the one rail down to narrowly miss out on the jump-off. Amelia and Quel Filou 16 finished 23rd with just one rail and one time fault.

Edwina Tops-Alexander had a couple of young horses in action at the event. Both Uppercourt Cappucino and Labantrix jumped clear in the CSI1* Table A On Time 1.35m to finish 23rd and 25th respectively, with Uppercourt Cappucino also producing a double clear in the CSI1* Two Phases Table A 1.35m.

Among other results, Hilary Scott was clear with Oaks Etna in the CSIYH1* Table A On Time 7yo 1.30m/8yo 1.35m for 26th place, while Thaisa Erwin was clear with Hialita B in the CSIO3* Table A On Time 1.45m for 20th place.
