Equestrian Life is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Queensland dressage rider Elliot Patterson, following a tragic accident.
Elliot passed away on 26 May 2024 due to injuries sustained following a fall from a horse three weeks earlier.
His fiancé, Alexis Hellyer, shared the following yesterday:
“Today I lost the love of my life, best friend and favourite person on this earth.
“Nearly three weeks ago, Elliot had an accident at the end of a routine session. Whilst cooling the horse off on a long rein at walk, the horse spooked sideways and lost its back legs and landed on the right side. Elliot was wearing a helmet.
“My life will never be the same without you Elliot, you were the best human and I will be forever missing you.”
Elliot was an established and talented FEI rider, travelling to Europe and competing among the world’s best at shows such as CDI Hagen and CHIO Aachen. He was also incredibly successful in young horse classes here in Australia, taking out the Young Dressage Horse Champion of Champions at Dressage & Jumping with the Stars for the last two years.
A wonderful person, friend, rider and competitor, Elliot will be deeply missed by all.
Equestrian Life’s thoughts are with Alexis, Elliot’s family, and his many friends during this incredibly difficult time.
