The 2018 FEI World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses has begun. The event commenced on Wednesday 1st of August with the 5-year-old, 6-year-old, 7-year-old and the CDI1* horse inspections. The event consists of four days of various young horse classes, as well as Intermediate and Prix St. George classes.
The first qualification class for the 5-year-olds was held yesterday, with Andreas Helgstrand and the 17.3hh Westfalen stallion Revolution taking the lead with 9.06 points. The stallion, that was purchased in 2015 by Helgstrand Dressage for 1.2 million euros did not disappoint, with the pair receiving 9.5 for the trot, 8.8 for the walk, 9.0 for the canter, 8.5 for submission and 9.5 for perspective, giving them a final score of 9.06.
Second place went to Germany’s Matthias Alexander Rath and the Hanoverian chestnut stallion Destacado, with a total point score of 9.04. The combination scored a 9.1 in the trot, 9.0 in the canter, 7.9 in submission, 9.4 in perspective and an impressive 9.8 in the walk.
Aussie Simone Pearce came 16th in the first qualification class for the 5-year-olds out of 42 competitors. Pearce riding Lindballe’s Just Perfect scored a total of 8.30 points, with consistent scores over the various movements. The pair scored 8.2 in the trot, 8.7 in the walk, 8.1 in the canter, 8.0 in submission and 8.5 in perspective.
Friday the 3rd will see the first qualification for 7-year-old horses, first qualification for 6-year-old horses and the small final for 5-year-old horses.
Aussie Rebecca Rooke will be competing in the first qualification class for 6-year-olds on Muschamp Royal Black. Simone Pearce will be riding in the 7-year-old class on Nexolia Feodoro. The pair led the qualifying round in 2017 in the six-year-old class with a total score of 9.02 points. Simone and Feodoro finished equal seventh in 2017 on 8.64 points in the final.
