Westphalian Elite Auction sees top price of 182,000 euros
By Equestrian Life
The 60th Westphalian Elite Auction was hailed a great success last weekend in Münster, Germany. Held exclusively online, the top price of 182,000 Euros (approximately $300,000 AUD) was paid for the Bonds/Ehrenpreis daughter Be My Lady. Eight horses were sold for 50,000 Euros (approximately $82,000 AUD) or more, and out of 39 horses sold, 20 will be trained abroad in the future.
The exciting bidding war for Be My Lady, bred by the ZG Ulmker, lasted over 15 minutes and involved bidders from the Netherlands and Germany; the mare will remain in her home country. This year, the mare already participated at the Westphalian Elite Mare Show and was nominated for the Bundeschampionat.
The second horse to break the magic 100,000 Euro ($165,000 AUD) mark was the Benicio/Laudabilis son Blinding Light, bred by Maria Leusmann. A new customer from the Netherlands won the bidding duel. At 106,000 Euros ($175,000 AUD), the virtual hammer fell for the chestnut, whose full sister was one of the price peaks at the Westphalian Elite Auction a year ago.
Twenty horses from the auction are heading to foreign countries, with Lot 14, a stunning chestnut mare named Sabrina (Sir Heinrich/Beltoni), apparently heading to Australia!

The seven show jumpers on offer were also highly valued by international customers. The Zinedine/New Quidam son, Zalando, bred by Norbert Frings, went for a top price of 57,000 Euros ($94,000 AUD). The still youthful four-year-old impressed in training throughout with ability and caution. A promising future awaits the bay, who went to the buying syndicate of Holger Hetzel and Ludger Beerbaum.
“Certainly we would have wished for a more personal setting for the 60th Westphalian Elite Auction. Nevertheless, we are very satisfied with the course of this auction and are pleased that we were able to sell so many riding horses for our breeders at a top price,” said auction and marketing manager Thomas Münch.
