Barastoc Junior Squad: Meet Chelsea Booker

In August 2016, Barastoc launched the Barastoc Junior Squad program to riding enthusiasts aged 13 – 18 who are passionate about riding.

The Barastoc Junior Squad aims to teach, inspire and guide young equine enthusiasts. The squad program assists young riders in gaining the experience needed to support a commercial sponsorship in adulthood, if it is desired or needed, as well as provide a solid understanding of feeding their horses. Each year Barastoc welcomes 20-30 new young riders to be part of the team.

Here, we catch up with young rider Chelsea Booker…

“Hello everyone, my name is Chelsea Booker, I am 15 years old and I’ve been riding horses for the past four years.

“I mainly compete in combined training on my horse Petrone. We love to attend clinics and lessons so we can continue to grow as a team. One of my favourite things about Petrone is the fact that he will show you his tricks whenever he wants a treat, he’ll give me kisses and cuddles but also loves to smile.

“I am so grateful to be chosen as a Barastoc Junior Squad Ambassador for 2023 and I am so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful, kind, and supportive team.

“While suffering with anxiety, I’ve particularly found it hard competing earlier on in my riding. I find it helps to stay in your own bubble and not to focus on what others think, focus on what’s most important overall and that’s to just enjoy riding, enjoy getting out with your horse and be grateful for every ride. I find It helps to surround yourself with people who will support you and guide you along your journey.”
