Five-time Driving World Champion Boyd Exell has claimed an incredible 11th win at Royal Windsor Horse Show, taking out the CAIO4* Land Rover International Driving World Cup Qualifier Four-In-Hand competition over the weekend.

Boyd’s Royal Windsor equine team included Ivor, Hero, Jalmer HBC, Checkmate and Celviro.

Team Exell was second in the dressage phase (Ivor, Jalmer HBC, Checkmate and Celviro) and a very close second in the marathon phase (Ivor, Hero, Checkmate and Celviro), which meant that he started the final cones phase (Ivor, Hero, Jalmer HBC and Checkmate) atop the leaderboard. With just 0.35 penalties added for second place in the cones, Boyd was able to hold on and claim the overall victory with a total score of 131.03. Second place went to the Netherlands’ Koos de Ronde on 136.74, while Ijsbrand Chardon, also representing the Netherlands, finished third on 138.58.

Competing against some of the world’s leading drivers from five nations, the Australian was thrilled with the win. “I am very pleased with overall result, it is amazing how horses can lift you to high levels. Thank you to my team at Royal Windsor and my team home in Valkenswaard and with special thanks to Willy Naessens for his support this season.

“My left leader, Zac (Jalmer HBC), did his first cones course competition at an international, and I’m delighted that he did a really good job for me in there. Taking a young horse around an international course isn’t ideal, but it was really worthwhile for his experience.”
