Boyd Exell wins CAI3* in Czechia
By Equestrian Life
Australian driving sensation Boyd Exell claimed victory in the CAI3* Four-In-Hand at Národní Hrebcín Kladruby in Czechia last weekend as the outdoor driving season gets underway in Europe.
Boyd and his team – Celviro, Checkmate, Hero, Ivor and Lodewijk – won the dressage phase and were second in both the marathon and cones phases, resulting in an overall score that saw them finish at top of the leaderboard on 135.15. The Netherlands’ Bram Chardon was second on 142.98, while Czechia’s Jiri Nesvacil Jr was third on 159.26.
Celviro, Checkmate, Hero and Ivor contested the dressage and cones, with Lodewijk swapping in place of Checkmate for the marathon phase.
While Boyd was strong across all three phases, it was the dressage that saw him begin with what ended up being an unbeatable lead – his 33.86 was more than ten points ahead of Chardon’s dressage mark.
Boyd also competed a new team – Maestro W, Marschalk, Magistraal, Kerro and Marijn – to finish in seventh place on 190.22. Marschalk, Magistraal, Kerro and Marijn completed the dressage, with Maestro W replacing Marijn and taking a leader role in the cones and marathon.
Congratulations Boyd!
