Riding the 10 year old French mare Arpège du RU, Abdel Said won Saturday’s premier class ahead of home crowd favourite Nicolas Delmotte and Urvoso du Roch. Dutchman Jur Vrieling finished third in the strong field of 45 starters.
Abdel Said was full of praise for his mare. “Arpège du RU is a very fast mare of course, which frankly makes life in competitions easier. I had a plan for this playoff, which was to try everything. Sometimes you come to a class and think, “I’m going to save the horse for the rest of the day.” But in our case, I had planned that this event would be the biggest Arpège would run this weekend and therefore, we had to give everything. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Today, it worked perfectly. I really love this mare, she’s very smart and loves to win. I’ve been riding her for two years, and together I have to say that we’ve already achieved some very good results!”
