Piggy French’s British team gold medal winning horse, Quarrycrest Echo, was sadly euthanised this week due to a rare disease.
The talented 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding was euthanised this week after suffering from Idiopathic Focal Eosinophilic Enteritis (IFEE), which is a rare inflammatory disease affecting the small intestine.
Quarrycrest Echo, who was known fondly as “Red”, had major success with French, together placing 10th individually at the World Equestrian Games of Tryon in 2018, as well as taking home a team gold medal.
The eventing star was purchased off Jayne McGivern last year by Riding Club Crane for Toshiyuki Tanaka to ride.
Quarrycrest Echo and Tanaka’s partnership was off to a promising start, with the combination competing at the CCI3*-S in Portugal earlier this year. The combinations competition plans, like many other competitors, were then put on hold due to Covid-19.
Equestrian Life’s thoughts are with Quarrycrest Echo owners and connections during this difficult time.
