German dressage rider Ingrid Klimke’s journey towards the Tokyo Olympics with Franzisku has ended following his injury.
Ingrid and the 13-year-old Hanoverian stallion have been training as part of the German Dressage Olympic team since 2019.
However, Ingrid announced last night via her social media that Franziskus has suffered an ‘acute injury’ and has been pulled from Olympic selection for Tokyo just months away.
“Unfortunately, Tokyo’s dressage dream has burst,” wrote Ingrid. “The most important thing now is that Franziskus recovers quickly.”
With so much time devoted to the training of the combination, it is unclear whether the five-time Olympic rider will have time to prepare another horse for German dressage team selection so close to the Games.
