Following wins at the CDI4* in Mannheim last weekend, Isabell Werth has announced that Don Johnson will be retired at the end of the season. The rising 18-year-old gelding by Don Fredrico out of Werona (by Warkant) was bred by Ulrike Meyer and is owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze. He has competed at the elite level with Werth for eight years, notching many wins in that time.
Debuting at Grand Prix CDI level in 2010, Don Johnson was on Germany’s silver medal winning team at the 2013 European Championships, the bronze medal winning team at the 2015 European Championships, and also placed fifth individually at the 2013 World Cup final.
The horse’s most recent wins at Mannheim saw him score 74.870% in the Grand Prix and 82.8% in the Freestyle.
Werth’s plan is to do three or four more shows with the horse this year, before allowing him to live out his retirement at home. Well deserved!
