Equestrian was first contested at the Asian Games IX New Delhi in 1982, and the team dressage event was held for the eighth time at this year’s Games. Japan was the highest ranked Asian NOC in team dressage at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where they finished in 11th place. As the host nation at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Japan will have a dressage team at the 2020 Olympics.
