The talented British combination of Laura Collett and London 52 were one of 10 combinations to jump clear of both jumping and time penalties around Pierre Michelet’s Cross Country track at 2020’s only CCI5*-L competition.
“I knew I had to be very careful with London 52 on the combinations. He’s a very careful horse and always jumps a bit bigger too. So, I stayed very concentrated and he was just perfect. It’s the first time he’s ridden an eleven-minute cross-country course, so I’ll see how things go tomorrow in the show-jumping event, but whatever happens, I’m just really proud of him this evening!” Laura Collett said, as she completed the day on her dressage score of 21.3 penalties.
Fellow Brit Piggy March climbed to second position with Brookfield Inocent, while New Zealand’s Tim Price finished the day in third position with Wesko ahead of Great Britain’s Alexander Bragg and Zagreb in 4th place. Less than one rail separates the top 4 combinations as they head into Sunday’s Show jumping phase.
It was not Australia’s day; Chris Burton and Graf Liberty, 2nd after the dressage, unfortunately incurred 20 jumping penalties and 24.0 time penalties to finish the day in 35th position. Likewise Kevin McNab and Scuderia 1918 A Best Friend, 5th after the dressage, incurred jumping and time penalties to finish the day in 32nd place. On his second horse Scuderia 1918 Don Quidam, Kevin McNab was clear of jumping penalties however 18.8 time penalties meant that the combination are in 27th place heading into the Show Jumping phase.
