Laura Collett produced a flawlesss showjumping round with London 52 to secure victory at the only CCI5*-L in 2020 – Les Etoiles de Pau. The British combination added no penalties to their outstanding dressage score of 21.3 penalties, leading the event from start to finish.

“It’s the stuff dreams are made of!” Laura Collett said after her victory. “I still don’t quite believe this is all really happening. This morning, I was saying to myself that if I had had the choice, I wouldn’t have wanted to ride any other horse than London 52 in this kind of competition! He’s a fantastic jumper. It was his first time competing at this level and I really wasn’t expecting this kind of result at the end of the competition.”

Fellow Brit Piggy March finished a close second on another 5* level debutant, Brookfield Inocent. This combination also finished on their dressage score of 22.2 penalties, while New Zealand’s Tim Price added minor time penalties in both the cross country and showjumping phases to finish in 3rd place on 24.2 penalties.

There were just 11 showjumping rounds clear of jumping and time penalties on the final day of competion, of which 3 were produced by the Australian riders. Kevin McNab finished in 20th position Scuderia 1918 Don Quidam, while Scuderia 1918 A Best Friend finished 25th and Chris Burton and Graf Liberty completed the event in 29th place.
