FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Arcadian Digital

Hey, hey fellow riders and horse lovers, after umpteen years of turmoil and failure by Equestrian Australia (EA) to meet Member expectations, there IS finally an opportunity to reform our sport. Here’s a once in a generation chance to get change — and change that will make our sport more fun, more rewarding for all stakeholders and be more efficiently organised.

I urge you to seize this chance by adding your weight to the process that can deliver a new EA. The prizes are huge.

• One member, One vote

• Constitutional reform leading to a new operational structure

• A new independent transitional board of directors

The key dates are:

7 July 2020 – the Administrators will issue their recommendations for the future of EA as well as all additional information needed by members before voting > see www.kordamentha.com

14 July 2020 – the Administrators formal meeting to decide the future of EA. Have your say by voting directly or by proxy.

Now the caveats – our collective watch list is:

1. The Administrators state they are pleased with member participation but as a member I haven’t experienced any engagement to date with this key and fast-moving process – have you?

2. The Administrator governance model proposes a nomination committee to propose transition directors – why aren’t members being asked to contribute names for consideration? Who is providing them and what are their credentials?

3. What horse sports knowledge and experience is being accessed by whom and from whom to draft new ways forward – I fear the 7 day deadline to 14 July meeting means member consultation and feedback will be in name only.

Nothing will please me more to be proven wrong on every point above and I promise our readers that Equestrian Life will keep you posted with news and updates as the 14 July deadline approaches. We need change with member engagement, not more of the past failed non-consultative actions.

Ryan’s Rave insights and passion about EA takes the story to compelling levels in this issue. You will feel the immense experience and passion coming from Heath’s pen – this is a must read article for today. There’s no one more experienced and savvy in the sport.

There’s lots more fascinating sports reading below, whether your interests be show jumping, eventing, dressage, para riding or online competition tips and training.

I’m off to vote, please join me and enjoy your riding! EQ
