Magic Millions showjumping set to be a $1 million event in 2023

By Equestrian Life

Australian showjumping has been given a huge boost, with the Magic Millions event on the Gold Coast planning to offer $1 million in prizemoney next year.

This year’s inaugural event, held as part of the Magic Millions polo day, already offered an impressive $100,000 in prizemoney and was hotly contested with Team Godolphin (Jess Pateman, Gabi Chugg, Frida Lindgren and Emma Smith) collecting the $34,000 winner’s cheque.

The Magic Millions — co-owned by Katie Page and husband Gerry Harvey — has now teamed up with Tom Magnier from Coolmore for next year’s expanded event, in the hope that it will help boost the sport in Australia by offering prizemoney to rival the biggest events in Europe and the US. The hope is that with the creation of events like this, young Aussie talent will have the option of staying home to compete rather than having to pack up and travel abroad.

Katie and Gerry’s daughter, Georgina Harvey, is a professional showjumper who has competed in Europe since 2013 and is based in the Netherlands near Stal Tops, while Tom Magnier grew up showjumping in Ireland — so there is plenty of enthusiasm for the sport from those behind this game-changing event.
