On the final day of the Homes & Acreage Boneo Classic, Australia’s elite Dressage, Para Dressage and Show Jumping combinations produced exciting performances that bode well for the future of Australian Equestrian sports – and indeed the Tokyo 2020 Olympics!

Dressage

Riley Alexander and the Farrell family’s thirteen year old gelding Larenso posted an outstanding score of 72.770% to win the IRT FEI Grand Prix Freestyle CDI3*, with an expressive and harmonious performance. Having placed second in Saturday’s Grand Prix Special CDI3* with 69.766% and fifth in Friday’s Grand Prix CDI3* with 68.174%, this combination showed that they are a force to be reckoned with in a star studded field.

The scores were close at the top of the leaderboard, with Riley’s coach John Thompson, an Australian based New Zealander finishing just 0.075% behind his student to take second place on 72.695% with his impressive eight year old stallion JHT Chemistry. Choosing modern music for their freestyle, this talented young pair provided the enthusiastic Boneo Park audience with an exciting and entertaining performance.

Rozzie Ryan and the fourteen year old gelding Jarrah R finished in third place with 70.295% ahead of Alycia Targa, who also cracked the 70% barrier with her long time partner CP Dresden. Mary Hanna, who scored impressive winning scores in the Grand Prix CDI3* and Grand Prix Special CDI3* with her beautiful mare Syriana, rode Calanta only in today’s Freestyle to finish in 7th place.

Para Dressage

A highlight of this year’s Boneo Classic was the inclusion of the final Australian Paralympic qualification event. Outstanding scores were achieved across the grades, with Emma Booth and Mogelvangs Zidane posting 78.000% in the Grade 3 CPEDI. With impressive scores achieved by all Australian team members, the chances of medaling at the Tokyo Paralympics are strong.

Jumping

Fifteen combinations started in the Browns Sawdust World Cup Qualifier. As the 2019 – 2020 World Cup series draws to a close – the final leg will be held next weekend at the World Wetlands Day – competition was fierce, with riders eager to finish at the top of the series leaderboard and secure a place in the Las Vegas final. With just four clears in the first round, twelve combinations progressed to Round 2. The experienced combination of Jamie Kermond and Yandoo Oaks Constellation were the first to post a double clear round with a time of 58.94, riding tight lines and with scope and finesse. Kermond’s time proved too hard to beat, with Russell Johnston being the  only other rider to post a double clear aboard the athletic gelding Daprice. James Harvey placed third with Tyrone VDL ahead of Tom McDermott and Elegance De La Chamille, while series leader Chris Chugg finished 5th with PSS Levilensky.
