An artwork depicting Australian lighthorse soldiers by a Sydney artist has won the 2021 Gallipoli Art Prize.

Forgotten Heroes by Geoff Harvey pays tribute to the sacrifice of the thousands of soldiers and horses who made up the ranks of Australia’s Lighthorse during World War 1.

The painting was chosen as the winner of this year’s Gallipoli Art Prize, just days before the country stops to remember its fallen soldiers on ANZAC Day.
