A horse truck belonging to NSW racing trainer Todd Howlett crashed and rolled on the New England Highway on Tuesday morning.

Howlett had been transporting five horses, including Tamworth Country Championships aspirant Toto, to a racetrack when the accident happened near Belford.

The trainer managed to escape injury in the freak accident that left the truck on its roof, but one unidentified horse was killed in the crash.

In a post on Todd Howlett Racing Facebook page, it was revealed that another truck had been involved in the accident.

“Todd escaped without injury, but we unfortunately lost one horse at the scene and the other 4 horses are being monitored back at the stables.”

“We would like to thank the emergency services, bystanders and vet for their quick assistance this morning.

“We are all in a state of shock and coming to terms with what has happened.”
