Shane Rose’s Olympic eventer, All Luck, has passed away at the age of 26.

The off the track thoroughbred reached the top level of the sport with Shane, and together they competed at the 2006 World Championships, finished third at the prestigious Burghley Horse Trials, and were part of the silver medal winning team at the 2008 Olympic Games.

The team at Bimbadeen Park released the following statement:

“A very tough day at Bimbadeen Park yesterday as the time came to say goodbye to a stable favourite ‘All Luck’. Lucky was an off the track thoroughbred that was purchased in partnership with Shane’s long-time supporter Angela Shacklady from Ebony Tucker in Victoria through agent Sharon Ridgway.

“At the time Shane was sidelined with a broken leg so Niki was the test rider and as soon as she jumped off, she said to Shane you have to buy this horse.  He failed the vet check and was a windsucker but it was decided he was worth the risk and was purchased anyway.

“Lucky won countless competitions in Australia and he with his team travelled the world competing. In 2006 he competed at the World Championships in Germany and in the same year placed 3rd at Burghley International Horse Trials in England. In 2008 he represented Australia at the Beijing Olympic Games and was part of the silver medal winning team. At the Olympic Games Lucky produced the best cross-country round of the day, clear in the fastest time.

“Lucky was as good as they get, he was a complete athlete. Very good paces on the flat, careful and brave in his jumping and so very trainable with a super attitude. Around the stables he was a complete gentleman, he retired from eventing in 2009 and spent the next few years as a dressage horse with Judy Horder. He was laid to rest at the age of 26.

“He will be dearly missed, we were so very lucky to have had Lucky in our lives.”

Our thoughts are with the team at Bimbadeen Park and all connected with this wonderful horse.
