By Equestrian Life
Sixteen-year-old Hanoverian stallion Salvino has been named the United States Equestrian Federation 2022 International Horse of the Year, with the announcement made over the weekend at the USEF Horse of the Year Awards Dinner in Lexington, Kentucky. The awards were voted by the USEF membership.
Salvino (Sandro Hit x Donnerhall), who is owned by Betsy Juliano LLC and ridden by Adrienne Lyle, is currently placed at number 32 in the FEI Dressage World Ranking for Horses.
Last year was a successful one for Salvino and Lyle, with wins in February and March at CDIs in Wellington, Florida, and placings at Aachen CDI4*. The pair competed at the FEI Dressage World Championships (Herning, Denmark) in August, where they were the only U.S. combination to qualify for the Freestyle. In the Freestyle, Salvino posted the second-highest score of his career (83.704%) to finish sixth. They then capped off the year with a CDI-W win back in Wellington. This year has also begun well with yet another CDI-W win at Wellington.
Salvino and Lyle have enjoyed a close partnership over the past seven years, with person best scores of 85.580% in the Freestyle, 80.830% in the Special, and 80.065% in the Grand Prix.
