Shane Rose has dominated at the Gow Gates Wallaby Hill International 3DE over the weekend in Robertson, NSW, winning both the CCI4*L and CCI4*S classes.
In the Gow Gates Insurance CCI4*L, Shane led from start to finish with the nine year old mare Easy Turn. The pair added just 1.6 time penalties to their dressage score to finish on 26.6. The showjumping phase came down to the wire, with Stuart Tinney and Celebration just 0.7 of a penalty behind on 27.3; both held their nerve and jumped clear to maintain first and second place. It was Shane’s third straight win in the CCI4*L at Wallaby Hill, winning in 2018 with Ultimate Velocity and last year with Easy Turn.
“You could have heard a pin drop, it was tense,” says photographer and event reporter Stephen Mowbray, in reference to Sunday’s jumping phase. “In customary Shane Rose fashion he made his way through the course, everybody holding their breathe as he went down the triple line, the line that have given all but Stuart on Celebration some difficulty and he cleared all three efforts with ease, the mare was at perfect stride and with just three fences left including the tricky Wallaby Hill skinny, the crowd remained on the edge of their seats until they safely went over the last and then the indoor arena echoed with a resounding round of applause for a wonderful ride and only the second clear round of the class to hand the title to our Champion, his third in a row.”
Stuart also finished third with Leporis on 33, while Cathryn Herbert was fourth with Femme de Renaissance on 39.7.
