Statue of Valegro unveiled

A bronze statue of Olympic gold medal winning horse Valegro has been unveiled in Newent, north-west of Gloucester, England.

Carl Hester, Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro himself were on hand to unveil the statue at the International Centre for Birds of Prey, in Newent, on Tuesday.

“Special day today as Georgie Welch’s Valegro statue was unveiled in our town of Newent; so he and his legacy, will be remembered for many years to come,” said Carl Hester.

The statue depicts Valegro in action, with a Union Jack on the side of the horse’s saddle.

Permission for the statue to be erected in Newent was finally granted by the Forest of Dean District Council earlier this month. The planning application for the proposed statue stated that the monument would ‘assist Newent in becoming a destination of choice for visitors’.

Well deserved recognition for a wonderful horse!
