There were winners all around the country as always on Saturday, but none received a bigger collective cheer than did Subzero, who was allowed to return home after an extended stint under medical care.

The 31-year-old marvel had been at the Bendigo Equine Hospital for nearly two weeks after an initial colic attack was followed by a kidney ailment then perotinitis.

But the Victorian Equine Group tweeted on Saturday that the popular Melbourne Cup winner was feeling well enough to return to the home of his best mate Graham Salisbury.
